Red River Gorge – Gladie Visitor Center
Living Archaeology Weekend 2022 is BACK – Live and In Person!!!!
Come to the Gladie Visitor Center along the picturesque banks of Gladie Creek and Red River for our free, annual, family-friendly event. One of the longest-running public archaeology education programs in Kentucky, LAW offers a variety of educational activities in American Indian and Pioneer lifeways, archaeological interpretation, and site preservation.
Archaeologists, artisans, tribal members, historians, and technology specialists provide high-quality, interactive demonstrations of American Indian and Pioneer technologies like flintknapping, cooking, and bow-arrow. Activities at the event include throwing a spear with a spear thrower or atlatl, using a loom, scraping a deer hide, or drilling a hole with a pump drill. Visitors learn about the area’s rich cultural traditions and gain insights into past people’s lives and experiences.
A food vendor will be on site. Parking is free.
